Kano CoS Drags APC Group To Court, Palliative Diversion Saga

Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, the Chief of Staff to Kano Governor has dragged the state chapter of the All Progressive Party (APC) to court over allegation that he was involved in diversion of rice and other palliatives sent to the state by the Federal Government.

Kano APC chairman, and a group within the party had in different statements, accused Sagagi of diverting bags of rice allocated as palliatives for distribution to the needy in the state by the Federal Government.

Sagagi, who has consistently denied the allegation, has further taken legal actions against the APC.

He took legal action against the Northern Youth Merger Group, a platform under APC, over the allegation.

The APC group had in a petition to EFCC accused Sagagi of diversion of the Federal Government’s rice palliative to an Islamic Center

Sagagi, a chieftain of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) also joined the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC); Commissioner of Police, Kano state and one Hon. Musa Mujahid Zaitawa in the suit filed before Kano state High Court.

Sagagi added that the NNPP government has been transparent in its distribution of palliatives to the masses, with clear records of beneficiaries and distribution channels.

Sagagi added that the APC is bent at tarnishing his personality as the allegations are unfounded and lack concrete evidence and were mere designed to score cheap political stunt.

Consequently, Justice Aisha Ya’u of the State High Court in an exparte order granted Thursday 15th August, 2024 restrained EFCC and Commissioner of Police from arresting, intimidating or harassing the Chief of Staff pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice filed against the four respondents.

The exparte order reads ” Upon reading motion exparte together with the accompany affidavit in support dated 12th August, 2024 , duly deposed by Jennifer Jediel, an order hereby granted.

” An interim Injunction is granted restraining the respondents particularly the EFCC and Commissioner of Police by themselves, servants, agents, privies or whosoever and howsoever deriving authority from them from arresting, harassing, molesting and, or detaining the applicant, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice”.
