In a sweeping nationwide crackdown, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested multiple suspects — including a Chinese national and an 80-year-old woman — and intercepted large quantities of illegal drugs cleverly concealed in everyday food items.
In a statement released made available to the column,ng by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA confirmed the arrest of Liang Tak You, a Chinese businessman, and Grace Ekpeme, an 80-year-old grandmother, among dozens of others across multiple states in one of its largest operations in recent months.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives seized 21.7kg of “Colorado” cannabis disguised in moimoi sachets and 3.8 litres of codeine syrup. At the Apapa Seaport, officers recovered 101kg of Canadian Loud hidden in canned food labeled “Bean Salad Mix” and packed inside two Toyota Sienna buses shipped from Canada.
Accprding to Babafemi , other major busts included: 71,000 pills of opioids from a suspect on Abuja-Kaduna highway. 30.1kg of skunk from a woman in Maiduguri, Borno State.
A 2,500kg cannabis plantation destroyed in Idoani, Ondo State.

Multiple arrests and seizures in Edo, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Gombe, Kaduna, and Kogi states, with drugs hidden in garri, dried scent leaves, and motor park trucks.
In total, NDLEA intercepted thousands of kilograms of illicit substances and arrested numerous traffickers, including notorious kingpins and accomplices.
The agency also intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) advocacy, holding sensitization programs in schools and traditional communities across Oyo, Ebonyi, Sokoto, Lagos, and Anambra states.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) commended the operatives for their relentless efforts in balancing drug supply reduction with public awareness campaigns nationwide.
