Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said his administration would focus on the provision of basic amenities with a direct impact on standard of living.
Governor Abiodun stated this at a meeting with the newly elected members of the 10th House of Assembly, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Lodge, Ibara, Abeokuta, noting that attention would be directed towards the delivery of electricity, potable water, housing and construction of more roads.
“We are now going to focus on public utilities. Water and Power supplies are going to get the utmost attention in our second term, as we have started the implementation with a pilot programme in Abeokuta, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ijebu-Ode and Sagamu. These areas will begin to enjoy 24 hours uninterrupted power supply.
“We will continue with our infrastructural development across the 20 Local Government Areas and ensure that the choice of infrastructure in terms of roads comes from our people so that we remain inclusive and participatory in governance. We will continue with the rehabilitation, renovation and reconstruction of schools, both in the primary, junior and senior secondary schools and improve the quality of our education”, the Governor stated.
Speaking on the health sector, Prince Abiodun emphasised that more renovation of health facilities would be carried out, with improvement on the standard of the Primary Health Centres in the 236 Wards, while the ‘hub and spoke’ approach would be encouraged.
He added that ‘’our affordable housing programme will continue, as we have constructed 1,700 houses already and we are planning to make 4,000 in our second term. We will not relent on the Special Agro-Processing Zone situated at the Agro Cargo Airport, while special attention will be given to the Kajola Dry Port to ensure that goods destined for the State from any part of the world are not routed to Apapa port but Kajola, to fast track ease of doing business in the State’’.
Abiodun stated that youth employment and job creation remain a special area to his government, noting that some stadia in the State were undergoing comprehensive rehabilitation, to provide an avenue for the youth to discover their talents, as well as serve as centres for the National Sports Festival, which the State is hosting in 2024.
