The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has said the present administration’s commitment to human capacity development policies remains unwavering, to enable the government to achieve more in its developmental agenda, especially among the State workforce.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele stated this at the flag-off of Bunmi Adedayo Foundation enhancement training for Mathematics teachers in the State, held at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba.
The Deputy Governor pointed out that several training and retraining programmes had been organised for teachers, and other Civil Servants with a view to widening their knowledge, saying ‘’we have a programme called OgunTeach and it has really made an impact in the lives of our students and pupils, we also provided infrastructure in all schools, to make learning more conducive for students.
“We have also initiated laurel programmes for students who excel in their studies as a motivation for others, increased teachers’ welfare and ensure prompt promotion of teachers as and when due”.
She noted that the training would complement government’s efforts towards improving teachers’ productivity for effective teaching and learning, commending the organisers for incorporating private schools in the State and calling on participants to take advantage of the training.
In his remark, the Chairman, Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, appreciated the Foundation for keeping to the ’Building Our Future Together’ agenda of the present administration in the education sector, encouraging participants to utilise the knowledge gained and cascade the training to other mathematics teachers.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, said Ogun State government is not resting on its oars in training and retraining of teachers, adding that in 2022 government trained 600 teachers in science subjects.
Earlier in his address, Chairman Board of Directors of the Foundation, Mr. Mayowa Ogunnusi, stated that teachers played a vital role in impacting knowledge in learners, noting that the Foundation was determined to enhance and empower Mathematics teachers with practical and cognitive skills to champion effective learning of mathematics in the 21st century classrooms.
