Pressure Machines Converted to Drug Vaults as NDLEA Arrests Engineer in Enugu

NDLEA’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday, said the shipment, which arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos on 29 November, was tracked by NDLEA operatives through multiple clearing processes.

Following intelligence, the Agency’s operatives monitored the consignment’s movement, arresting Egwu when he appeared to take delivery after the importer rerouted it to Enugu.

The NDLEA also recorded major seizures and arrests across several states during the past week.

In Adamawa, Operatives recovered 511,000 tramadol pills from a Siena vehicle abandoned by its occupants at Hildi, Askira Uba Road, on 6 December. The vehicle was abandoned after the suspects noticed they were being trailed by the NDLEA.

In Ekiti, two suspects, Olanrewaju Alale (48) and Babatunde Kayode Ijadahun (55), were caught transporting 1,323 kilogrammes of cannabis in a J5 bus en route to Ondo State for distribution in the North.

Likewise in Oyo, at Idere Road, Igboora, a suspect, Adekunle Yusuf (33), was arrested with 704 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in white sacks on 6 December.

In Lagos, a 65-year-old grandmother, Ramata Bola Adeyemo, was arrested on 6 December at Odunfa Street, Lagos Island, with 20.6 litres of codeine-based syrup.

Similarly, Alhaji Lawan Manga was arrested on 5 December at Ogundana Street, Ikeja, with 4.7 kilograms of cannabis and 1.3 kilograms of tramadol.

The NDLEA extended its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign to schools, religious centres, and communities nationwide.

Awareness lectures were held in institutions such as Progressive Secondary School in Oyo, Muslim Grammar School in Osun, Government Girls College in Borno, and others. In Lagos, leaders and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Orile Agege participated in an enlightenment session.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) lauded the operatives for their operational successes in curbing drug trafficking and balancing supply reduction with demand reduction efforts. He reiterated the Agency’s commitment to maintaining nationwide momentum in the fight against drug abuse.
