Guardiola Explains Reason Behind Man City’s Resurgence
Pep Guardiola has explained the reason for Manchester City’s resurgence as they push for the Premier League title.
The win lifts City to 64 points from 31 games, cutting the deficit to leaders Arsenal—who have 70 points from 32 matches—to just six points, ramping up the title race in the closing stages of the campaign.
Asked why Manchester City have been in such fine form in the final stages of the season, Pep Guardiola joked: “The sun! If it had been shining in November, we’d have been league champions by January… No, I’m joking, of course. In Manchester, the sun doesn’t shine very often.”
Looking ahead to next Sunday’s 32nd-round clash with Arsenal in the Premier League, he added: “That game will feel like a final for both teams, but there is a tactical detail we need to review, so we may make some adjustments.
“Everyone is talking about the Arsenal game, but matches against Brentford, Bournemouth and the other sides are just as important. The season is still long.”
Guardiola added “We’re in better shape, and in training everyone knows exactly what they have to do. We’ve faced three strong opponents, three Champions League teams. We didn’t put in a complete performance for the full 90 minutes, but we were organised enough, didn’t concede many chances, and our attacking threat was always there.”

He added:One of our secrets as a club and a system is that, after one success after another, we have remained humble and have always asked ourselves: what must we do to stay at the top? Winning once or twice is normal, but to remain at the top for nine years—with the exception of last season—reflects the strength of the entire system.”

The United States has reversed a policy that suspended visa processing for foreign-trained doctors, allowing physicians from Nigeria and about 38 other countries to resume their applications.
According to a report by The New York Times, the earlier restriction—introduced in January—had halted decisions on visa extensions, work permits, and green cards for citizens of nearly 39 countries under the US travel ban system
The move left many foreign-trained doctors unable to practise.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has now updated its guidelines to exempt medical doctors from the freeze, enabling their applications to move forward.
According to report, spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed the development, stating that, “Applications associated with medical physicians will continue processing.”
The policy reversal comes amid a growing healthcare staffing crisis in the US, where authorities estimate a shortage of about 65,000 doctors—a gap expected to widen in the coming years.
Foreign-trained physicians make up roughly a quarter of the US medical workforce, with many serving in primary care roles, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
The earlier visa freeze had forced some doctors into administrative leave, while others faced possible job losses due to stalled approvals.
With processing now resumed, the move is expected to ease pressure on hospitals and allow affected doctors, including Nigerians, to continue their practice.
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new five-year contract until 2031.
The 21-year-old’s previous deal at Old Trafford, signed in 2023 when he was still 17, was due to expire in the summer of 2027.
Mainoo has featured in 26 matches in all competitions so far this season, 24 in the Premier League, with this contract extension understood to underpin his importance in the team since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim as United manager in January.
