President Bola Tinubu has departed for Paris to join world leaders in Paris, France, to review and sign a New Global Financial Pact that places vulnerable countries on a priority list for support and investment, following the devastating impact of climate change, the energy crisis, and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He took a helicopter from the Presidential Villa to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport earlier today, where he was received by state governors, government officials, and military personnel.

Tinubu’s trip as disclosed by his spokesman, Dele Alake will be his first official trip abroad since he was sworn in as Nigeria’s president on May 29.

Alake announced the proposed trip in a statement on Monday even as the president leaves for Paris today to attend the summit for a new global financial pact.

The President will attend the two-day Summit on June 22 and 23, which will explore opportunities to restore fiscal space to countries dealing with difficult short-term financial challenges, specifically the most indebted.

“The President will participate in the two-day Summit, June 22 and 23, that looks at opportunities to restore fiscal space to countries that face difficult short-term financial challenges, especially the most indebted countries,” the statement read.

“The summit will mobilize innovative financing for countries vulnerable to climate change; foster development in low-income countries, and encourage investment in “green” infrastructure for the energy transition in emerging and developing economies.

Tinubu appears keen for his administration to transform the economic fortunes of the country

The President will return on Saturday, accompanied by members of the Presidential Policy Advisory Council along with other government officials.
