Lagos: Bandit’s Attack Warning Letter Not Verified- Police
The Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents, parents and school authorities that there is no verified intelligence suggesting any planned attack or abduction of schoolchildren by bandits in the state.
The assurance followed the circulation of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intended to attack and abduct pupils.
However, to forestall any security breach, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, has ordered the deployment of watertight security measures across the affected area and other strategic locations in the state, with police personnel and other security agencies mobilised to protect schools, critical infrastructure and communities.
Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the Command had assessed the situation and found no credible intelligence indicating any imminent threat.
According to her :”The Lagos State Police Command has seen reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intend to attack and abduct school children. The Command wishes to reassure parents, guardians, school authorities and all residents that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State.
“While every security concern is treated with the utmost seriousness, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed an immediate assessment of the situation and strengthened security architecture around vulnerable and strategic locations across the state.
“The Command wishes to emphasise that Lagos State remains secure and that every lawful measure is being taken to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating or operating within the state,” she said.
“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Any individual or group found engaging in acts capable of causing fear, panic or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law”, she stated.
Adebisi urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that security remained a collective responsibility.
She also advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, objects, movements or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
“The public is once again assured that all hands are on deck to ensure the continued safety, security and well-being of every resident of Lagos State,” she added.

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has threatened to embark on industrial action if the worsening wave of terrorism, banditry, and kidnappings across the country continues unabated.
The labour centres issued the warning during a joint media briefing on the sidelines of the ongoing 114th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The labour leaders also dismissed claims by some state governors that negotiations were ongoing with workers on a proposed ₦100,000 minimum wage, insisting that such assertions did not reflect the current realities of discussions on workers’ welfare.

EPL Sends 162 Players To 2026 World Cup; City Leads With 19
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Premier League is the top league in terms of player contributions to the 2026 World Cup, sending 162 players to the 48-team tournament.
With the World Cup squad lists finalized, and despite last-minute withdrawals due to injury, such as Belardi from Argentina and Kahr from Germany, it can be concluded that the Premier League is once again leading the world’s major leagues. England’s top flight has solidified its position as the largest source of players for the 48 World Cup teams.
As of June 7th, out of the 1244 confirmed selected players, 13% play in the Premier League, totaling 162 individuals, with 5 clubs contributing at least 10 players each.
Manchester City leads the clubs contributing national team players to the World Cup with 19 players. Following closely among English teams are Arsenal with 16, Manchester United with 12, Crystal Palace with 12, and Liverpool with 11. The English top flight has once again proven its representation in football, and this advantage is now reflected on the World Cup stage.
Although there is a gap with the Premier League, the Bundesliga is still the second-highest contributor of players to the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Specifically, 100 participating players currently play in the Bundesliga, with Bayern Munich being the largest contributor from the Bundesliga, with 17 players selected. Borussia Dortmund contributed 11 players. In recent years, the Bundesliga’s global influence has continuously increased, with Hoffenheim having 9 World Cup players and Eintracht Frankfurt having 8.
Without Barcelona, La Liga’s presence would be much smaller. Including Gündoğan, Barcelona will have 16 players participating in the World Cup, making it one of the clubs contributing the most players to this World Cup. La Liga has a total of 81 players selected, only half that of the Premier League. After Barcelona, Atlético Madrid is the Spanish club with the most players contributed, with 12, surpassing Real Madrid’s 10, as Real Madrid also suffers from the impact of a poor season performance.
Ligue 1 has a total of 78 players participating in the World Cup, with Paris Saint-Germain accounting for a large proportion. Among these 78 players, nearly 20% come from this newly crowned European champion, specifically 15 players. Following Paris Saint-Germain among Ligue 1 clubs are Lille and Nice, both with 8 players selected.
Italy once had the best league in the world, and now Serie A contributes 66 players to this most important football event, which is also related to the Italian team missing the World Cup for the third consecutive time. AC Milan, which finished fifth in Serie A, is the Italian club with the most World Cup players, with 10.
Another data point that demonstrates the strength of English football is that the EFL Championship, England’s second-tier league after the Premier League, has 36 players participating in the World Cup, which is more than the total of other major European second-tier leagues, such as the 2. Bundesliga with 6, Ligue 2 with 6, Serie B with 5, and Segunda División with 5. In fact, the Championship is among the top ten leagues contributing the most World Cup players, even higher than the Brazilian and Dutch leagues.

Akintunde also advised them to imbibe proper waste disposal by patronizing Waste PSP assigned to their immediate community for proper waste disposal for just a token instead of them to use the cover of the night to dump them in discriminately on the median, roadsides and public places which he says deface the aesthetic beauty of the State.
“Ogun state residents are known as clean and fun-loving people. We should not allow few of us to dent our pride through their untoward attitudes and behaviors,so when we see them dumping indiscriminately in our environment we should say something”
“We will on our part continue to do our best in terms of proper waste management through sensitization and advocacy as we urge all residents to containerize their waste for easy collection by government accredited PSP”
”For industries domiciled in the state, let me remind them of the need to allow government accredited PSP assigned to them to perform their statutory duties instead of patronizing illegal PSP which will attract sanction when they are caught by our enforcement team as OGWAMA will not allow them to turn the state to dumpsites for illegal industrial waste some of which are not environmentally friendly” Akintunde added.
He did not forget to remind all residents of the State that Ogun State Waste Management Authority will step-up it enforcement activities in all nooks and crannies of the state to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment .
