Today is the International Day of Forest and this year’s theme is tagged…

The International Day of Forests is observed annually on March 21. The purpose of the day is to increase public awareness of the importance, value, and role that forests play in maintaining the earth’s life cycle.

On this day, a number of private and public organizations collaborate to educate the public about not only the woods as a whole but also the trees and vegetation that may be found outside of forested areas. The purpose of the holiday is to raise awareness of how crucial a healthy environment is for all future generations as well as for those living today.

Originally, “World Forestry Day” was declared in 1971 at the 16th session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) then hosted six Forest Days between 2007 and 2012.

The United Nations General Assembly declared March 21 to be International Day of Forests on November 28, 2012 (IDF).
