According to an official statement from Liverpool, Liverpool legend Sir Kenny Dalglish has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

Sir Kenny Dalglish posted an update on social media today. The full text is as follows:

The news was leaked when I accidentally posted something due to a slip of the hand. I am currently receiving treatment for cancer. Although I am clumsy with my phone, the treatment is progressing well.

This matter was intended to be handled privately and not disclosed to the public, but I am not very good at using digital devices and accidentally leaked the news.

I never intended to make my illness public, and I urge all parties to respect my privacy and that of my family, and to refrain from disturbing us.

As always, I thank the medical staff, who not only took meticulous care of me but also consistently upheld the principle of confidentiality, diligently protected countless patients, and honored their profession.”

Liverpool officials stated: All staff at Liverpool Football Club will send their best wishes and support to Sir Kenny Dalglish and his family, now and in the future. The club also echoed his request, calling on the outside world to respect his privacy.

The Indigenous Ijaw and Urhobo people of Warri Federal Constituency, on Monday staged a peaceful protest over the delay of the implementation of the Supreme Court ordered fresh delineation of Warri Federal Constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, just as they condemned the alleged interference of the Presidency in the matter.

The protest was led by Ijaw and Urhobo leaders, at Ogbe-Ijoh market, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, who carried placards with inscriptions such as, ‘FG, allow INEC to do its work’, ‘DSS, stay away from Warri Federal Constituency delineation’, ‘INEC, respect the rule of law’, ‘INEC, implement the approved State Constituencies/RAS you presented on May 20, 2026, in Asaba’, ‘No allocation of Wards and Units’, among others.

An address by the Ijaw and Urhobo leaders was read by the spokesman of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Godspower Gbenekama.

The protesters said the interference by the Presidency was an attack on the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which the president swore to observe and protect.

According to the protesters, “By Section 161 of the 1999 Constitution, INEC is independent in the performance of its duties and the Presidency has no power whatsoever to direct INEC. The 1999 Constitution clearly states that INEC shall not be subject to the direction and control of the President.

“Further more, by Section 287(2) of the 1999 Constitution,the judgment of the Supreme Court is final and all organs and agencies of government have a constitutional duty to implement orders of the Supreme Court without delay or hesitation. In this case, the Supreme Court gave a final decision in SC/413/2016: George Timinimi &Ors V. INEC and therefore, the Presidency has no constitutional powers to stop its implementation.

“We wish to alert the Nigerian people and the International Community that, the interference by the Presidency in the implementation of the judgment of the Supreme Court is an attack on the rule of law and democracy in the Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State in particular and Nigeria in general.”

The protesters insisted that the rule of law must prevail in the matter saying, “The threat to national security being alleged by the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, to stop the immediate implementation of the fresh delineation is only a subterfuge by the Presidency to alter the final report of the delineation to favour the Itsekiri ethnic group.

“If anybody or group is threatening the peace of Warri as a result of the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment, the Office of the NSA should go after such a person and not disrespect the Supreme Court orders.

“The Ijaw people of Egbema Kingdom in Warri North LGA, who the new State Constituency was created for after more than a century of political oppression and suppression, are eager to elect political party candidates to participate in the 2027 general elections into the Delta State House of Assembly.

“If the Itsekiris are not ready to participate in the election of persons into the new State Constituency in Warri South-West, the Ijaws are ready and should be allowed to participate in the election based on the newly created constituencies and fresh delineation of registration areas and polling units in compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court.”

Some Urhobo and Ijaw leaders including, Femi Okumagba, John Edgar Eranvor, Dembo Oweikpodor and others aligned with the positions of Gbenekama as they spoke on the matter.

A notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, has established communication with relatives of the abducted retired senior military officer, Major General Rabe Abubakar Batsari,

the bandit kingpin, who operates in parts of Katsina State, opened a line of communication with the family of the retired General on Monday morning.

The retired Major General and his wife were reportedly abducted on Saturday in Katsina State.

Their vehicle was ambushed along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli Road in Matazu Local Government Area by gunmen, who, according to witnesses, emerged from hiding, blocked the road and opened fire on the vehicle, forcing it to a halt before abducting the retired officer and his wife into a nearby forest.

The road, according to residents of the area, is unsafe due to repeated bandit attacks.

A senior local government official in Batsari, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, according to the report, confirmed that he personally spoke with the abducted officer during the conversation facilitated by the bandit leader.

“I spoke with Major General Rabe through Kachallah Muhammad. He told us that he is hale and hearty and that his wife is also fine,” the official said.

According to the source, the retired general assured his family and associates that they are being adequately taken care of by their captors, a development that has somewhat eased anxiety among relatives and residents of the area.

The official further disclosed that during the interaction, Kachallah Muhammad made his demands clear, insisting on the release of his relatives, allegedly being held by Nigerian security authorities.

“He said what he wants is the immediate release of his relatives in government custody,” the official added.

The bandit leader, the report said, also expressed willingness to return to negotiations, indicating openness to dialogue aimed at restoring peace in Matazu and other areas under his influence.

“He said he is ready to go back to the negotiation table to achieve peace in Matazu and neighbouring communities,” the official said.

Relatives and residents of Batsari have expressed deep concern over the abduction of the retired senior military officer, describing the incident as a devastating blow to both his family and the community that has benefited from his years of service and philanthropy.

Security expert, Abubakar Ibrahim, said the incident reflects a dangerous escalation of insecurity in Katsina State, warning that criminal groups appear to be growing bolder.

“The kidnapping of a retired Major General shows how emboldened bandits have become. It exposes the vulnerability of major highways and rural communities. If urgent and decisive action is not taken, the situation could further deteriorate.”
