World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
This year, the theme for World Population Day is centred on how to safeguard the health and rights of women and applying the brakes on COVID-19. The theme aims to shed light on the importance of ensuring reproductive health and rights for everyone, particularly our womenfolk as the COVID-19 pandemic fades away. It emphasises the need for accessible healthcare services, education and empowerment, particularly in developing nations where population growth is escalating rapidly.
On this day, numerous events, seminars, workshops, and campaigns are organized globally to promote awareness, knowledge sharing, and collaboration in achieving sustainable population growth and development. The activities aim to engage individuals, communities, organizations, and governments in addressing population challenges and working toward solutions
