Professor Nentawe Yilwatda has emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following his confirmation at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Yilwatda, a former gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, succeeds Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned from the position in late June. His emergence was the result of a consensus agreement among key stakeholders within the ruling party.

The motion to ratify his appointment was moved by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and seconded by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.

Known for his background in engineering, academia, and electoral administration, Yilwatda brings a technocratic approach to party leadership. His appointment is also seen as a strategic effort to maintain geopolitical balance within the APC, returning the national chairmanship to the North-Central region.

Party leaders expressed optimism that his leadership will foster unity, discipline, and renewed focus as the APC gears up for the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda, in his acceptance speech, pledged to lead with transparency and inclusivity, promising reforms aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots structures and internal democracy.
