The Lagos State House of Assembly has begun the probe of state’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for the last quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025

The Chairman, House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Sa’ad Olumoh, stated this at the ongoing 2024 Budget performance review at the assembly complex in Ikeja on Wednesday.

It was reported that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Jan. 13 signed N3 trillion as the state’s Appropriation for the year 2204.

Olumoh said during the sessions, MDAs were grilled on both capital and recurrent expenditure to ensure full compliance with the Appropriation Law and deliver value for money to Lagos residents.

The chairman described the exercise as a routine oversight function mandated by the law.

The lawmaker said the exercise was expected to enhance transparency, strengthen institutional accountability, and support effective governance in the state.

“The Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, approved the review as part of its constitutional duty to monitor and scrutinise the financial activities of government agencies.

“This review is a critical exercise conducted quarterly to ensure that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) adhere strictly to the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Laws.

“It is part of our oversight responsibility to make sure the people of the state are getting value for every kobo spent,” he said.

Olumoh said the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), which was preparing for the July 12, local government election, had accessed over 75 per cent of its allocated funds and expressed confidence in its preparedness.

Olumoh said LASIEC was expected to reappear before the House on July 17 with a comprehensive report.

In her presentation, LASIEC Chairperson, Justice Omobolanle Okikiola-Ighile affirmed the commission’s readiness for the July 12 local government election.

Okikiola-Ighile said the commission had visited all 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs and assessed their preparedness at 90 per cent.

She added that security agencies and relevant stakeholders had also been engaged ahead of the polls.
