Today is Workers Day.
International Labour Day, also known as May Day or International Workers’ Day, is celebrated on May 01 every year to recognize the contributions of workers in society. The roots of this day are traced to the 1886 Haymarket Riot, which involved violence between the police and workers. Many countries celebrate it as a platform for workers to fight for their rights and improve their working conditions. The celebration is also an opportunity to honour the struggle and movement of workers seeking justice, equality, and fairness.

Workers Day was first recognised as a public holiday in Nigeria in 1980 by the People Redemption Party of Kano State. It officially became a national holiday on May 1st 1981, and has been celebrated on this date ever since.

Workers Day has been a public holiday in Nigeria since 1981. Traditionally, people gather together on the day to celebrate with friends and family, commemorating the workers and labourers whose vital work keeps countries and businesses across the world running smoothly

Labour Day is celebrated in over 80 different countries across the world.
