The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, Afenifere, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Hon. Kayode Oladele as Acting Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
In a statement issued by its National Organising Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, Afenifere described Oladele as “a detribalized Nigerian, social crusader, and patriot committed to justice, equity, and national unity.”
The group recalled Oladele’s contributions to Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggles, notably his activism during military rule as a member of Afenifere, the Campaign for Democracy (CD), and NADECO. He played a prominent role in the June 12 movement and the actualization of Chief MKO Abiola’s presidential mandate.
As a federal lawmaker, Oladele was instrumental in key legislative reforms, including sponsoring the Public Holiday Amendment Act, which moved Democracy Day to June 12, and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) Act, which strengthened anti-corruption efforts.
“Within Afenifere, he remains a dedicated voice for fairness and democratic values. We have absolute confidence in his capacity to lead the FCC with integrity,” the statement said.
