The lid has been taken off the identity of an Ogun state based multi- billionaire smuggler allegedly in working alliance with the officers of the Nigerian Customs.
Investigative Journalist, Fisayo Soyombo on his Twitter handle @Fisayo Soyombo. mentioned the chief smuggler is better known by his nickname, Abuga.
Reporting the identity and activities of Abuga, Soyombo writes: as you and I both know, in Ipokia Local Government, Idi-Iroko precisely, the undisputed kingpin of smuggling is Socopao.
As IBD Dende is the overlord in Ilaro and other locations in Yewa South and Yewa North local governments, Socopao decides who smuggles or not in the Idi-Iroko-Owode-Sango axis.
But I have previously written about Socopao, so this tweet is not about him.
It is about Adeyemi Habeeb Abdulganiy, better known by the alias ‘Abuga’, the smuggler who is a multi-billionaire despite being only in his early to mid-30s.
Before the Ogun Command of Customs was divided into I and II, no comptroller posted to Idi-Iroko who did not have a relationship with Abuga. Customs officers always give Abuga the days to operate, and he in turn aligns other smugglers with the Customs-approved smuggling days, as any other smuggler in Idi-Iroko and Owode not wanting to forfeit their goods to Customs raids must pass through Abuga.
Nigerians like to know: what is the exact nature of the relationship of senior Customs officers with Abuga, to the extent that he understands the Customs-approved days for smuggling and his goods never get intercepted? When will the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) start tackling smuggling rather than enabling it?
