A strong case has been made for the restructuring of the Nigerian administrative system to reflect the differences and interests of the ethnic groupings in the country.
A Barrister at law and public analyst, Barister Shakiru Omolaja made the call while speaking on Ojumore, a public affairs Program on Miliki 101.3 FM monitored by the column.ng
The legal mind while giving his assessment of the nation’s democratic rule since 1999, said contrary to the popular unity in diversity slogan to promote ethnic collaboration in the country, the different ethnic nationalities that made up the country are the reason her democracy has been less productive and successful. Describing the Unity in diversity narrative as fraudulent and manipulative, he said the differences in the culture of the ethnic nationalities in the country are too glaring to make for any meaningful corporate progress.
Stressing that the country is better off operating independent regional governments, the lawyer said Nigeria will continue to slide backward the current all powerful centre structure remain.
Insisting that most are not happy with Nigeria as presently constituted, the lawyer said the differences among the ethnic groupings are too deep to enable the country move forward.
He also condemned the motion moved on the floor of the Senate, calling for the immortalization of the late INEC chairman, Henry Nwosu whom he said does not deserve the recognition being sought for him over his role in the annulled June 12 1993 election.
He said it will be an aberration for Nwosu to be rewarded for his act of cowwardise since he failed to announce the result of the June 12 election. He said announcing the result of the election would have changed the violent outcome of the annulment of the adjudged free and fair June 12 election.
