Youth Council Partners NDLEA, Targets Women Ministries, NGOs To Tackle Drug Abuse, Prostitution

In it’s effort to tackle the growing trend of drug abuse among the youth, the Chairman of the Nigerian Youth Council Mr…… has kicked off a collaborative process, with he National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA) with the aim of arresting the menace, using advocacy as a tool.

The Chairman was guest on Ojumo Ire, an awareness program on a Lagos based  radio station , Miliki FM, where he also mentioned that, the Council has been visiting poor urban communities (ghettos) where drug usage among youths are prevalent, primarily, to conscientize the them about the danger of drugs usage .

 

 

He said the advocacy efforts have been yielding good results, hence, the council has begun a process of collaborating with State Commands across the 57 local governments in Lagos state, to organize aggressive advocacy programmes, which will also see his team collating data of victims, while the date will specify the different drugs responsible for the plight of each victim.

 

The data which he said, is needed to present the case of drug abuse victims to government for rehabilitation.

 

Unfolding plans to also arrest the ridiculously fast growing trend of prostitution in the name of hookup and Oloso among young gilrs, the chairman informed of the intention of the Youth Council, to engage the girls, by collaborating with the Federal and State Women Affair’s ministries as well as relevant Non Governmental organizations (NGOs)

 

 

He identified ICT, as one of the areas the Council is looking at, to engage the girls with, because of the vast opportunities it provide for personal growth and national development.

 

 

The Chairman who decried the rate at which youths leave the country for greener pastures abroad said, whether the Youths like it or not, it’s their responsibility to make the nation Nigeria work.
He lamented the humiliating experiences of the youths abroad and especially in African countries, where they are subjected to inhuman conditions before they could eke out a living.

 

 

He said all over the world, it is the youth that drive the economy and urged the Nigerian Youth to face the challenge and be responsible.

 

The Youth Council boss, thus called for a national reorientation of the youths, to make them realise their roles in nation building to discourage the current brain drain.
