Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has expressed outrage over the killing of two Kano State natives by suspected youths in Agan community, Makurdi, calling the act unacceptable.

The victims, who were transporting goods to the eastern part of the country, were attacked and killed around 11 pm on Monday after parking their truck to buy a recharge card, according to a security source.

“They parked in the Agan community to get a recharge card when some youths attacked and killed them,” the source said.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, to the governor, described the act as “barbaric and unacceptable”, ordering the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

“Five criminals have been swiftly apprehended in Makurdi by the police following the Governor’s directive,” the statement confirmed.

Alia expressed sadness over the incident, emphasising that Benue people are known for peace and hospitality.

“We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our image. These criminals MUST be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

Expressing his sympathy, the governor reached out to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and pledged that those responsible would be brought to justice.
