Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos after her altercation with some airline hostesses, is yet to decide if she will take legal action against the airline.

Emmanson’s lawyer, Adefunke Maria, stated this on a  on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief programme  monitored by the column.ng on Thursday.

The lawyer condemned the treatment of her client by the airline’s flight attendant who blocked her from disembarking upon arrival in Lagos from Akwa Ibom last Sunday.

Maria said, “On the way forward, whether Comfort will allow the sleeping dogs lie, she will inform us, we can’t disclose that online.

“She is a full-grown adult. If she is going to press civil charges for compensation, she will let us know. But for now, we can’t decide for her. She will revert.

“For now, she just needs to rest, put herself together.”

Viral videos showed Emmanson and one of the flight attendants engaged in fisticuffs as security officials tried to restrain her.

Though many Nigerians faulted the passenger for her aggressive display, they also faulted one of the airline’s flight attendants, who was filmed to have blocked the passenger from disembarking.

Particularly, many were outraged by the filmed indecent exposure the passenger was made to suffer during the charged encounter with some ground staff at the Lagos airport.

The passenger’s lawyer insisted that the airline’s workers filmed the incident and released it online, an action she condemned.

Emmanson was immediately arrested by the police at the airport, arraigned at a Lagos court and remanded in prison.

The immediacy of Emmanson’s prosecution sparked selective justice flames, with many calling for the instant prosecution of Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde, also known as Kwam 1, who tried to block a moving ValueJet aircraft on August 5, 2025, at the Abuja airport but wasn’t prosecuted.

On August 13, 2025, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo ordered that the charges against Emmanson be withdrawn, after which she was freed from prison.

The minister also asked that the lifetime flying ban imposed on the female passenger by airline operators be lifted but many social media users continue to demand that the passenger seek legal redress.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated elder statesman and former military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (rtd), on his 85th birthday, saying the ex Military leader has impacted Nigeria in ways no other leader has done.

President Tinubu disclosed this in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

He also described General Babangida as an outstanding leader whose remarkable military career culminated in his leadership of the nation following the 1985 coup.

The President said “Like him or not, former President Babangida impacted Nigeria in ways no other leader has. His eight-year reign left enduring marks on our political, economic, and geographic landscape.

“He expanded the nation’s economy, established lasting infrastructure, and created several agencies and institutions that continue to serve the national interest. But for his foresight, wisdom, and sense of equity and fairness, many states in the federation might not exist today.”

The President noted that General Babangida’s name and legacy would remain indelible in Nigeria’s history because of his many contributions to national development.

“Even in retirement, living a quiet life at his Minna Hilltop residence in Niger State, General Babangida continues to offer valuable counsel and guidance to the nation. His advice and wise counsel remain an inspiration to younger generations”, the President said.

” I wish you continued grace, good health, and renewed strength. May Almighty Allah keep you with us for many more years to come,” the President added.

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu says he is not afraid of losing his job despite mounting pressure following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Madugu’s future has come under intense scrutiny after the Super Falcons suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the decisive CAF play-off in Morocco.

The loss ended Nigeria’s remarkable record of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup since the tournament began in 1991.

For the first time since 1991, Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup.

The pressure on Madugu intensified after the Super Falcons failed to secure automatic World Cup qualification at the WAFCON.

With calls growing for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make changes to the technical setup, Madugu insists he is prepared to accept whatever decision the football authorities make.

The coach said representing Nigeria has been a privilege and that he has no fear of being relieved of his position.

“I am not afraid of being sacked. To the glory of God, I have served my country. It was a privilege that was given to me,” Madugu said.

He added, “So far, I have played almost 28 games, won 19, lost four and drawn four. But this defeat came at crucial moments that people did not expect.”

Gumi Explains Why Funding Mass Marriages Is Government Responsibility

Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, says it is the responsibility of the government to use public funds to support marriage arrangements in states operating under Shariah law.

In a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, Gumi argued that governments in Shariah-governed societies have a duty to address social needs arising from the prohibition of sexual relationships outside marriage.

The Islamic scholar noted that government intervention to assist people who cannot afford marriage should be viewed as part of responsible governance, especially where prostitution, fornication, adultery and promiscuity are prohibited by both religious principles and state laws.

According to him, public resources could legitimately be used to support young people in urgent need of marriage, as well as women who face limited opportunities to find suitable spouses.

“In a Shariah law-driven state, where prostitution, fornication, adultery, and promiscuity are prohibited by both divine and state laws, using public funds to facilitate the marriage of women who are in excess of the available pool of eligible men, or of any young person in dire need of marriage, is a legitimate and responsible component of good governance,” he wrote.
